The Plan Commission of Winona Lake, Indiana met Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in the Town Hall at 4:30 p.m.  Noted as present:

Members:                     Mark Workman, Dave Turner, Lynette Dick, Randy Swanson and Craig Allebach

Others:                         Dick Leaf, Town Building Commissioner and Retha Hicks as secretary.

Mark Workman, Plan Commission Vice-President, opened the meeting.  Minutes were approved.

Dick Leaf presented a request for a lighted sign at the storage unit property located on the corner of 225S and Packerton Road.  Currently there are 3 large 4x8 signs; 2 small information signs; and one large billboard on the property.  The sign ordinance states a limit of 2 signs.  Mr. Howell came in and requested to place an off premise sign on Pierceton Road which was granted a couple of months ago.  If Mr. Howell removes 2 of the large signs, the Plan Commission will allow him to install the lighted sign.  These two signs must be removed before a permit will be granted.  The committee requested that Dick not issue any sign permits until next month.

The current Winona Lake sign ordinance was discussed and the Plan Commission would like to see Section 7 be completely removed and in section 5 D (1) – limit the size to 15%.  The committee members will study the ordinance for any further changes and bring their recommendations to the next meeting.  It was suggested that when the committee addresses the zoning ordinance to insert the language of the sign ordinance.

Next month the committee will also discuss the Neighborhood Ordinance example from Goshen.  Committee members were asked to review and come prepared to make any changes.

Meeting adjourned.
